SCENE 01 / GIMBAL FILMING
Gimbal Filming Services
Smooth, stabilized camera movement for dynamic cinematography across Mexico.
Gimbal filming uses electronically stabilized camera platforms to deliver fluid, vibration-free movement while following action. From handheld units for lightweight mirrorless cameras through to heavy-lift rigs supporting cinema packages, gimbals unlock dynamic shooting scenarios across Mexico — from Mexico City's Centro Histórico and Polanco to the Teotihuacán pyramids, the Sierra Madre mountains and Baja California's coastline.
We provide gimbal systems and experienced operators across Mexico, coordinating equipment out of Estudios Churubusco (the largest in Latin America), Baja Studios in Rosarito (home of the famous 17-million gallon water tank from Titanic) and Estudios GGM in Mexico City. Our team matches gear and crew to your shoot — whether it's a Ronin 2 for a Condesa walk-and-talk or a heavy-lift MoVI for a Sicario-class feature claiming the EFICINE incentive.

Gimbal filming across Mexico — DJI Ronin 4D Flex, Freefly MoVI Pro, ARRI Maxima, ARRI Trinity — Birdman long-take heritage, Roma Coyoacán handheld tracking, Sicario border discipline
Here is how this works in practice. We set up gimbal-stabilized filming across Mexico through SOC-credited operators running DJI Ronin 4D-8K Flex (8K full-frame X9-8K cinema gimbal), DJI Ronin 2 + Ronin 4D, Freefly MoVI Pro and MoVI XL for heavy-payload ARRI Alexa 65 / Sony Venice 2 / RED V-Raptor lifts, ARRI Maxima single-stabilizer rigs, ARRI Trinity / Steadicam Volt hybrid systems, and FlowCine Black Arm car-mount support. CDMX rental houses (Cinecolor, Lemon Studios, Estudios Churubusco) carry today's DJI and Freefly inventory; Tijuana cross-border resupply from Filmworks LA, Quixote LA, and Birns & Sawyer LA covers tentpole feature work same-day. Owner-operator gimbal teams in CDMX trace lineage back to telenovela day-shoot training at Televisa San Ángel and TV Azteca Ajusco — pickup-cycle volumes built the deepest single-operator gimbal bench in Latin America.
Gimbal-filming heritage in Mexico anchors in Emmanuel Lubezki's Birdman 2014 (Best Picture + Best Cinematography Oscars — the entire film constructed as a single virtual long take stitched from gimbal and Steadicam segments), Gravity 2013 (Best Director Oscar — 17-minute opening gimbal/VFX choreography), Roma 2018 (Coyoacán handheld tracking, Best Cinematography Oscar), Bardo (Iñárritu 2022 — Prieto's CDMX dream-state long-take work), Sicario / Sicario 2 (Deakins Sonoran border gimbal tracking), and Pan's Labyrinth (Navarro's labyrinth-interior gimbal-on-Steadicam work, Best Cinematography Oscar 2007).
On the ground, On-location operators handle Centro Histórico CDMX (UNESCO 1987) cobblestone discipline, Yucatán Maya jungle (Apocalypto 2006. This covers Gibson canopy work), Real de Catorce ghost-town interior corridors, Cabo San Lucas + Acapulco beach-rim sequences, Lacandon jungle Chiapas, and INAH archaeological-site protocols (Teotihuacán, Chichén Itzá, Palenque) needing rubber-tipped landing feet and no-residue rigging. STIC + STPC union eligibility, IMSS workers-comp, ATA carnet (SAT/Aduanas).
FAQ
Stabilized Cinematography Expertise
What gimbal systems do you provide in Mexico?
We operate all major gimbal platforms including DJI Ronin 2, RS3 Pro, RS4 Pro, Freefly MoVI Pro and MoVI Carbon out of Mexico City, Guadalajara and Baja bases. System selection depends on your camera weight, lens requirements and shot complexity.
Can you support heavy cinema cameras?
Yes, our heavy-lift gimbals support ARRI Alexa Mini LF, RED V-Raptor, Sony Venice 2 and similar cinema cameras used on Estudios Churubusco and Baja Studios productions. We ensure proper balancing and power management for extended shoots in altitude or coastal conditions.
Do you provide operators or just equipment?
We provide experienced gimbal operators as standard, drawn from Mexico's strong Latin American below-the-line talent pool. Our operators understand both the technical systems and the cinematographic requirements for smooth, intentional movement.
What shots work best with gimbals?
Gimbals excel at walk-and-talk sequences, tracking through spaces, following action, reveal shots, and long takes with movement. They provide smooth motion while maintaining mobility that dolly or Steadicam setups cannot match.
How do gimbals compare to Steadicam?
Gimbals are lighter, faster to set up, and more mobile than Steadicam. However, Steadicam provides a different aesthetic quality and can handle heavier cameras. We can advise on the best solution for your specific shots.
Can you integrate wireless follow focus?
Yes, we integrate wireless follow focus systems with gimbal setups, allowing a focus puller to control lens remotely while the operator concentrates on movement. We also support wireless video monitoring.
