bus

R-1 and R-2 city buses run continuously between Hotel Zone and downtown ($1 USD). ADO long-distance buses connect Riviera Maya towns reliably.

Crew tip: R-1/R-2 OK for light crew movement. Use ADO for between-city travel — modern, reliable, AC.

taxi

Local taxi syndicate dominates — rates posted at hotels but often inflated. Uber operates but contested by local drivers.

Crew tip: Negotiate rates upfront. Pre-arrange production vans through local fixers. Avoid Uber pickups at airport.

rideshare

Uber operates in Cancun but with restrictions. DiDi limited. Private fixer transport recommended.

Production Parking easy · Permits required

Hotel Zone has ample parking at resorts. Downtown limited. Tulum and Playa del Carmen require parking lots ($3-5 USD).

Quintana Roo film commission coordinates permits. Hotels typically provide production parking with negotiated agreements.

Getting Between Locations

Highway 307 runs the entire Riviera Maya coast — fast and modern. Cancun to Playa del Carmen: 1 hour. To Tulum: 1.5 hours. To Chichen Itza: 2.5 hours west via Highway 180D. Hurricane season (Jun-Nov) requires weather contingency planning.
